Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah along with the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, and all that belonged to him—his sons, daughters, donkeys, oxen, sheep, tent—everything. Joshua led them all to the Valley of Trouble

The one who puts earning money above his family will have trouble at home, but those who refuse to exploit others will live in peace.

For my people who seek me, I will make the Plain of Sharon a pasture for flocks in the east, and in the west, the Valley of Trouble will be a resting place for cattle, for my people who seek me and no other god.

The boundary then went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor and turned north to Gilgal, which faces Adummim Pass south of the gorge. It continued along to the waters of En Shemesh and ended at En Rogel.

Don’t forget what happened to Achan! Yahweh told us, ‘Destroy everything in the city of Jericho.’ But Achan son of Zerah did not obey Yahweh’s command regarding the devoted things, and so Yahweh punished us all. Achan died because of what he did, and so did many other Israelites because of Achan’s sin.”

You must not take for yourselves anything that is dedicated to Yahweh or you will bring trouble and destruction to the entire Israelite camp!

They utterly destroyed all that was in Jericho, men and women, young and old, livestock and donkeys—everything was destroyed with the sword.

But the Israelites violated the commandment regarding the wealth of Jericho that was to be set apart for the Lord. Achan son of Carmi, grandson of Zimri, of the clan of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, stole some of the devoted things for himself. This ignited Yahweh’s anger against Israel.

They took the stolen objects from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and displayed them in the presence of Yahweh.

They raised over him a huge mound of stones that remains to this day. That is why the place was called the Valley of Trouble ever since. Afterward, Yahweh’s anger subsided against Israel.
