The Passion Translation

Joshua set up the memorial stones that they had taken from the exact spot where the priests stood bearing the ark in the riverbed. They remain there to this day.

So he named it Oath. This is why the city where they dug the well is called Beersheba to this day.

Early in the morning, Jacob took the stone he had under his head, set it up as a pillar and anointed it by pouring oil over the top of it.

That’s why that land has been called “The Field of Blood.”

So they took the money and did as they were told. (That is why the story of the guards is still circulated among the Jews to this day.)

Joshua recorded all this in a book of divine instruction. Then he set up a large stone memorial at the tent pole near the holy place of Yahweh.

While the priests remained standing in the middle of the Jordan with the ark on their shoulders, the people hurried across. All the instructions Yahweh had given to Joshua were carried out —just as Moses had told Joshua.

Later the man and his family moved to the land of the Hittites and built a town. The new town has kept the name Luz to this day.
