the water coming downstream toward them stopped flowing and piled up in a solid wall as far upstream as Adam, a place near Zarethan. Yahweh completely cut off the flow of the river so that it drained downstream toward the Desert Sea (the Dead Sea). So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

Kedorlaomer had oppressed these five kings for twelve years until they rebelled against him in the thirteenth year. They all became regional allies in the valley of Siddim, which is now the Dead Sea.

The Red Sea waters saw them coming and ran the other way! Then later, the Jordan River too moved aside so that they could all pass through.

O sea, what happened to you to make you flee? O Jordan, what was it that made you turn and run?

Above the furious flood, the Enthroned One reigns, the King-God rules with eternity at his side.

Your steps formed a highway through the seas with footprints on a pathway no one even knew was there.

God split the sea wide open, and the waters stood at attention on either side as the people passed on through!

When I came to you, why was no one there? When I called, why did no one answer? Am I powerless to rescue you or too weak to deliver you? With only a threat I can evaporate the sea and dry up the rivers as a desert, leaving the fish to rot and die of thirst.

He said, “This water flows east, down to the Jordan Valley and to the Dead Sea. As it flows into the stagnant waters, that water becomes fresh water.

The western area of his kingdom included the eastern desert from Lake Galilee to the Dead Sea (the Salt Sea). His territory included the area east of the Dead Sea as far as the town of Beth Jeshimoth and as far south as Mount Pisgah.

From Janoah the border descended to Ataroth and Naarah. It touched Jericho and came out at the Jordan River.

“The moment the feet of the priests carrying the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, touch the water of the Jordan, a great miracle will happen! The water flowing downstream toward you will stop and pile up as if behind a dam.”

tell them, ‘Here is the place where the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry ground!’

All the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea became terrified of the Israelites. For when they heard how Yahweh miraculously dried up the Jordan so that the Israelites could cross over, all their courage melted away.

When they sounded their three hundred shofars, Yahweh made the enemy troops turn against each other with their own swords. The Midianites fled toward Zarerah as far as Beth Shittah, as far as the outskirts of the town of Abel Meholah near Tabbath.
