Just as he has kept every wonderful promise he ever made to you, so Yahweh your God will carry out every threat and will obliterate you completely from this good land which he has given you.

Therefore a curse devours the earth; its people suffer under their guilt, causing earth’s inhabitants to dwindle, and their number is reduced to so few.

Look! The Babylonians have already set up siege ramps to take the city! Jerusalem is now within their clutches. The people will suffer from war, food shortages, and disease when they attack the city. What you prophesied has now come true, as you see.

Once again, the Israelites continued doing evil in the sight of Yahweh, so he subjected them to Philistine rule for forty years.

The Israelites again did what was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and because they did what was offensive to Yahweh, he gave King Eglon of Moab power over Israel.

Therefore Yahweh’s blazing anger rose up against them. He surrendered them to Cushan-Rishathaim, the king of Mesopotamia. He kept the Israelites in bondage to him for eight years.

Once again the Israelites did evil in the sight of Yahweh, so Yahweh handed them over to the Midianites for seven years.
