The Passion Translation

Yahweh kept his promise and gave them peace in the land just as he had promised to their forefathers. Not one of their enemies could stand against them.

As a herder leads his cattle to find rest in a fertile valley, the Spirit of Yahweh led them into rest. In the same way, you led your people to win for yourself a glorious name!”

So we conclude that there is still a full and complete Sabbath-rest waiting for believers to experience.

“Remember the words that Yahweh’s servant Moses commanded you: ‘Yahweh your God is giving you this land on the east side of the Jordan as your homeland.’ Therefore, your wives, your little ones, and your livestock may remain here, but all your valiant warriors must cross over with us armed. They will take the lead and help their brothers

until they take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving them as their homeland. Afterward, you will be free to return to your own land and possess the land that Moses, Yahweh’s servant, gave you here on the east side of the Jordan.”

Joshua, no one will be able to defeat you for the rest of your life! I will be with you as I was with Moses, and I will never fail nor abandon you.

Joshua conquered all those royal cities and their kings. He destroyed them all, as Yahweh’s servant Moses had commanded.

Joshua conquered the whole land, just as Yahweh had promised Moses. Joshua assigned portions of the land to each of the tribes of Israel, and the Israelites lived in peace throughout the land.

Yahweh fought alongside Joshua’s fighting men to defeat them. Part of the Israelite army attacked and pursued the retreating forces as far north as the cities of Misrephoth Maim and Sidon. Another part of the Israelite army pursued the enemy as far east as the valley of Mizpah and crushed them all, leaving no survivors.

“Yahweh has certainly handed over the entire land into our hands! All the people of the land melt in fear before us!”

Yes, he has promised peace to your fellow Israelites, and he has kept that promise. So now, return to the homeland east of the Jordan which Moses, Yahweh’s servant, assigned to you.

So the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh left their fellow Israelites at Shiloh in Canaan and returned to Gilead, their homeland. For Moses had told them before he died, “Yahweh wants you to take this land for your own.”

Many years had passed since Yahweh had given Israel rest from all their enemies, and Joshua was very old.
