Joshua 17:1

The Passion Translation

Joshua assigned land to the descendants of Manasseh, Joseph’s firstborn son. Joshua allotted Gilead and Bashan to Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a brave warrior.

Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, saying, “God has made me forget all my troubles and my parental home.”

The second he named Ephraim, saying, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”

In Egypt, Joseph had two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, by Asenath (the daughter of Potiphera, a priest of On).

When Joseph saw his father place his right hand on Ephraim’s head, he was not happy, so he tried to move his father’s hand from Ephraim to Manasseh’s head.

“Not that way,” Joseph said to his father, “Here, father, put your right hand on the firstborn’s head.”

He lived to see the third generation of Ephraim’s children. Joseph also lived to see the children of Makir, son of Manasseh; and Joseph gave Makir’s children inheritance rights.

Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, here are the territorial boundaries for your distribution of land among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph shall receive a double portion.

And Joshua assigned land west of the Jordan River to the rest of the tribe of Manasseh. The male descendants of Manasseh were Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. All of these men were heads of families, and each of their families received territory west of the Jordan River.

To one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had assigned land in Bashan. To the other half, Joshua assigned land on the west side of the Jordan with their fellow Israelites. Joshua blessed them and sent them off to their homes

You men of Ephraim came out to the valley, your brother Benjamin joined your ranks. Leaders came from Manasseh, and from Zebulun, those who hold the ruler’s staff.
