Joshua conquered all those royal cities and their kings. He destroyed them all, as Yahweh’s servant Moses had commanded.

So Joshua and the Israelites nearly killed them all—almost to a man—although a few escaped into the fortified cities.

You still must conquer the land of the Sidonians who live in the hill country between the Lebanon Mountains and Misrephoth Maim. As the people of Israel advance, I myself will drive out these peoples from before you! Divide the land among the tribes of Israel exactly as I have commanded you.

Yahweh kept his promise and gave them peace in the land just as he had promised to their forefathers. Not one of their enemies could stand against them.

He made it according to the teaching in the law of Moses, Yahweh’s servant. Moses had commanded them to build an altar using stones that had not been cut with iron tools. On it they offered to Yahweh burnt sacrifices and fellowship offerings.

When you’ve captured the city, set it on fire. Now that you have your orders, go and do as Yahweh has commanded!”

They answered Joshua, “We lied, sir, because we greatly feared for our lives. We know for certain all about Moses and how he served Yahweh, your God. We know for certain that Yahweh will honor his promise to Moses and give you all these lands as your own. And we know for certain that he commanded you to wipe out all the inhabitants living here and thus take possession of this land.
