The Passion Translation

They were concerned because the miracle Jesus performed by making clay with his saliva and anointing the man’s eyes happened on a Sabbath day, a day that no one was allowed to “work.”

One Sabbath, Jesus and his disciples were walking through a field of wheat. The disciples were hungry, so they plucked off some heads of grain to eat.

One Sabbath, Jesus was on his way to dine with a prominent Jewish religious leader for a festive meal. Everyone was watching him to see if he would heal anyone on the Sabbath.

From that day forward the Jewish leaders began to persecute Jesus because of the things he did on the Sabbath.

Immediately he stood up—he was healed! So he rolled up his mat and walked again! Now Jesus worked this miracle on the Sabbath.

So the people marched him over to the Pharisees to speak with them.

Then Jesus spat on the ground and made some clay with his saliva. Then he anointed the blind man’s eyes with the clay.
