The Passion Translation

So when Pilate heard this threat, he relented and had Jesus, who was torn and bleeding, brought outside. Then he went up the elevated stone platform and took his seat on the judgment bench—which in Aramaic is called Gabbatha, or “The Bench.”

Fear and intimidation is a trap that holds you back. But when you place your confidence in the Lord, you will be seated in the high place.

“Why were you so afraid of them that you told lies and did not remember me or even care what I thought? Is it because I have been patient and long silent that you no longer fear me?

King Zedekiah then said to me, “I’m afraid of our own people who have already defected to the Babylonians. They might give me into their hands; then they will torture me!”

Then Pilate was greatly alarmed when he heard that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God!

Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, there is a pool called in Aramaic, The House of Loving Kindness, surrounded by five covered porches.

But Peter and John replied, “You can judge for yourselves—is it better to listen to you or to God?
