The Passion Translation

Jesus, knowing full well what was about to happen, went out to the garden entrance to meet them. Stepping forward, he asked, “Who are you looking for?”

Jesus knew that the night before Passover would be his last night on earth before leaving this world to return to the Father’s side. All throughout his time with his disciples, Jesus had demonstrated a deep and tender love for them. And now he longed to show them the full measure of his love.

So once more, Jesus asked them, “Who are you looking for?” As they stood up, they answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

For you have revealed to me the pathways to life, and seeing your face fills me with euphoria!’

My heart will not fear even if an army rises to attack. I will not be shaken, even if war is imminent.

Jesus knew that his mission was accomplished, and to fulfill the Scripture, Jesus said: “I am thirsty.”

and that’s why he told them that not all of them were clean.

In fact, Jesus already knew from the beginning who the skeptics were and who his traitor would be.

Then he said to them, “Don’t you remember the words that I spoke to you when I was still with you? I told you that I would fulfill everything written about me, including all the prophecies from the law of Moses through the Psalms and the writings of the prophets.”

Along the way Jesus said to them, “Before the night is over, you will all desert me. This will fulfill the prophecy of the Scripture that says: I will strike down the shepherd and all the sheep will scatter far and wide!

While they were eating, Jesus spoke up and said, “One of you is about to betray me.”

“You know that the Feast of the Passover begins in two more days. That’s when the Son of Man will be betrayed and handed over to be crucified.”

From then on Jesus began to clearly reveal to his disciples that he was destined to go to Jerusalem and suffer injustice from the elders, leading priests, and religious scholars. He also explained that he would be killed and three days later be raised to life again.

Guilty criminals experience paranoia even though no one threatens them. But the innocent lovers of God, because of righteousness, will have the boldness of a young, ferocious lion!

Even though ten thousand dark powers prowl around me, I won’t be afraid.

Since Christ, though innocent, suffered in his flesh for you, now you also must be a prepared soldier, having the same mind-set, for whoever has died in his body is done with sin.

“Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. (Now Judas, the traitor, was among them.) He replied, “I am he.”
