Our fathers who were delivered from Egypt didn’t fully understand your wonders, and they took you for granted. Over and over you showed them such tender love and mercy! Yet they were barely beyond the Red Sea when they rebelled against you.

But you continue in your darkness and ignorance while the foundations of society are shaken to the core!

Justice never makes sense to men devoted to darkness, but those tenderly devoted to the Lord can understand justice perfectly.

They’re greedy dogs that never eat enough. And the shepherds have no discernment; they follow their own desires. Every last one of them seeks his own profit.

God will purify many people and make them clean and spotless, while the wicked will continue doing what is wicked. This revelation will remain a riddle to the wicked, but those who are wise will have profound understanding.

These words of Jesus sparked an angry outburst among the Jews. They protested, saying, “Does this man expect us to eat his body?”

And when many of Jesus’ followers heard these things, it caused a stir. “That’s disgusting!” they said. “How could anybody accept it?”

What did he really mean by his statement, ‘You will search for me and won’t be able to find me. And where I am you can’t come’?”

(Even after all of this, they still didn’t realize that he was speaking about his heavenly Father.)

Why don’t you understand what I say? You don’t understand because your hearts are closed to my message!

Someone living on an entirely human level rejects the revelations of God’s Spirit, for they make no sense to him. He can’t understand the revelations of the Spirit because they are only discovered by the illumination of the Spirit.

They become illustrations of the true proverb: A dog will return to his own vomit and a washed pig to its rolling in the mud.

And we know that the Son of God has made our understanding come alive so that we can know by experience the One who is true. And we are in him who is true, God’s Son, Jesus Christ—the true God and eternal life!
