The Passion Translation

Suddenly the cup of Babylon falls to the ground and is shattered. Wail for her! Get medicine for her wounds; perhaps she can be cured.

Look! Someone’s coming! It’s a man in a chariot with a team of horses. He shouts out, ‘Fallen, fallen, Babylon has fallen! All the idols of their gods lie shattered on the ground!’ ”

An avalanche of evil will come upon you that no magic spell will be able to avert. Great disaster is about to fall upon you that you will not be able to ward off! Total devastation will strike you suddenly. It will happen so swiftly you won’t even see it coming!

Suddenly both of these losses will overtake you in one day, for you will lose your husband and your children. Despite your many magic spells and your powerful sorceries, you will be overwhelmed by these tragedies in full measure!

Go ahead—try to find some healing medicine in Gilead, you frail, unfortunate people of Egypt! None of your medicine will do you any good.

They answer, ‘Moab is humiliated. Weep and cry for Moab, for she has been defeated!’ Announce the news beside the Arnon River: ‘Moab is devastated.’

“What! Has the great city of Babylon been taken? Has the pride of the whole world been seized? Babylon has become an object of horror throughout the nations.

Is there no healer in Gilead? Is there no medicine there? Why then have the people I love not been healed?

“Son of man, prophesy and announce what I, Lord Yahweh, say to Egypt: “ ‘Weep and wail, for the day of disaster is here!

This is why God sent the hand that wrote the inscription upon the wall.

So Darius the Mede received the kingdom when he was sixty-two years old.

Then a second angel followed, declaring, “She fell! She fell! Babylon the great is fallen! She once seduced the nations and made them all drink the wine of the passion of her harlotry!”

He shouted out with a thunderous voice: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a demonic dwelling place, a prison for every unclean spirit, unclean bird, and every unclean, detestable beast.
