The Passion Translation

Babylon was like a golden cup in Yahweh’s hand; she made the whole world drunk. The nations drank her wine and then went mad.

you will jeer at the king of Babylon and recite this proverb: “Your oppressor has been stilled and your onslaught is over!

then answer them, ‘Yahweh says: I am going to fill all the people of this land with a drunken stupor, including the kings of David’s descendants, the unfaithful priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

‘Behold, I will summon my servant Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, along with all the northern armies, and bring them to fight against this land, its people, and all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction and make them a desolation. I will turn them into ruins forever. Everyone will be utterly astonished by the sight of what I have done to them.

May a drought dry up all their rivers! For it is a country full of idols, and their terrors make them delirious.

The noise of your party, a carefree crowd, echoed all around—a noisy crowd of drunk nomads! They put bracelets on the women’s arms and magnificent headpieces on their heads.

The head of this statue was of purest gold, its chest and arms were of gleaming silver, its belly and hips of polished bronze,

He has handed over to you people, beasts, and birds, wherever they live, making you king of them all. You, O king, are the golden head.

Then a second angel followed, declaring, “She fell! She fell! Babylon the great is fallen! She once seduced the nations and made them all drink the wine of the passion of her harlotry!”

The kings of the earth have fornicated with her, and the people of earth are drunk on the wine of her prostitution.”

The woman was robed in purple and scarlet and was glittering with gold, precious stones, and pearls. She was holding in her hand a golden chalice brimming full with defiling obscenities and the filth of her lewdness.

The light of a lamp will never shine in you again, Nor will the joyous laughter of a wedding be heard in you. Your merchants were once the tycoons of the world, But you deceived all the nations by your sorcery.

All the nations have drunk of the wine of her immoral passion, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and merchants of the earth have grown wealthy because of her power and luxury.”

All his judgments are right and true, For he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality. He has avenged on her the blood of his loving servants.”
