“Yet even then,” Yahweh said to me, “I will not completely eliminate you.

For I am with you and will save you,” Yahweh declares. “Someday, I will bring destruction to all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not destroy you. I will discipline you but in moderation. I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”

“For I, Yahweh, have spoken: ‘The whole land will remain desolate; however, the end of the world is not yet.

“Here is what I, Yahweh, have decreed: ‘I will send your enemies to cut the branches from your vines, but they won’t destroy them completely. I will tell them to strip away your branches. The people of Judah and Israel have been utterly unfaithful to me and are no longer mine.’ ”

They will devour your harvest and your food. They will devour your sons and your daughters. They will devour your flocks and your herds, and devour your vines and your fig trees. You put your trust in your fortified cities, but they will ransack them and slaughter the inhabitants.’ ”

And when people ask you, ‘Why did Yahweh our God bring this tragedy upon us?’ You will answer, ‘As you have forsaken Yahweh and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a foreign land.’

While I was prophesying, Pelatiah son of Benaiah dropped dead. I threw myself facedown to the ground and cried out, “Oh no, Lord Yahweh, are you going to annihilate the remnant left in Israel?”

In spite of this, I took pity on them, so I spared them from destruction and did not make an end of them in the desert.

While they were slaying, I was left alone in the temple. I threw myself facedown on the ground and cried out, “Oh, Lord Yahweh, are you really going to wipe out the remnant of Israel by venting your fury on Jerusalem?”
