The Passion Translation

Your proud heart has deceived you. Your pride rests in thinking everyone is afraid of you. But I, Yahweh, say to you whose home is in the rocky cliffs, who live high on the mountaintop, though you make your nest as high as the eagle’s, I will topple you from your high place!

Your boast becomes a prophecy of a future failure. The higher you lift yourself up in pride, the harder you’ll fall in disgrace.

Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.

Lift yourself up with pride and you will soon be brought low, but a meek and humble spirit will add to your honor.

For you are my dove, hidden in the split-open rock. It was I who took you and hid you up high in the secret stairway of the sky. Let me see your radiant face and hear your sweet voice. How beautiful your eyes of worship and lovely your voice in prayer.

“How, then, can you say, ‘We are heroes of Moab and mighty men of war’?

“Behold, I will make you the least of nations; all the world will despise you.

“Assemble the archers and attack Babylon! Encamp around her and leave no way of escape. Treat her as she has treated others and repay her for all she has done, for she was arrogant and defiant to Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel.

I, Yahweh, say, even if Babylon should climb up to the sky, and entrench herself in an inaccessible height, I would still call her enemies to destroy her.”
