The people of Dibon went to their temple to weep; they went up to their high places to lament. Moab wails with sorrow over what happened to Mount Nebo and Mount Medeba. Humiliated, every head is shaved bald and every beard cut off.

My heart cries out for the people of Moab, for her fugitives who flee to Zoar and to Eglath-shelishiyah. Weeping, they climb the upward road to Luhith. Their loud cries of anguish are heard all along the way to Horonaim.

From one end of the land to the other, Moab is weeping; her wailing reaches to Eglaim and Beer-Elim.

That is why I said, “Leave me alone to weep my bitter tears. Don’t even try to comfort me concerning my beloved people being destroyed.”

Let that man be like the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah that Yahweh destroyed without pity. Let him hear shouts of alarm in the morning and battle cries at noon.

“Look, enemies are gathering in the north, like a river rising. They are like a terrible flood that will cover the land of the Philistines and everything in it, the towns and everyone living in them. People will cry for help, and all the people of your land will cry and scream

“The loud cries of Heshbon are heard as far as Elealeh and Jahaz. Cries from Zoar are heard in Horonaim and Eglath Shelishiyah. The brook of Nimrim has dried up.

Moab is shattered, and her little ones cry out in distress.

Yes, they are weeping all the way up to Luhith. Yes, all the way down from Horonaim they hear a distressful, painful cry.

“Listen! The voice of a shout from Babylon. It is a noise of great destruction coming from the country of the Chaldeans.
