The fame of Moab is no more. In Heshbon, the enemy plotted Moab’s doom: ‘Come, let’s wipe her off the map.’ For indeed, my sword will leave only silence in your town named Silent.

Just as this established order will not pass away, so I will never let Israel cease from being a nation. “I, Yahweh, have spoken.

but now the Lord Yahweh says, “In exactly three years, the splendor of Moab and her huge population will shrink to nothing; only a small and feeble remnant will remain.”

Weep and wail, Heshbon, for Ai has been destroyed! Shriek, women of Rabbah! Put on sackcloth and mourn; run back and forth in confusion! For enemies will lead Molech away and take him captive with all his priests and servants.

In Heshbon’s shelter, exhausted refugees are helpless, for fire came out from Heshbon, a flame from the house of Sihon. It has burned everything from the frontiers to the mountain heights of those war-loving people, the Moabites.

Moab will be destroyed, wiped from the earth, because she exalted herself against Yahweh.”

Grieve for her, all you neighboring countries and all you who know her fame. How shattered is its rule, that mighty rod, that splendid scepter!

Yahweh declares to you, “My servant Jacob, Do not be afraid, for I am with you and will save you. Someday, I will bring destruction to all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not destroy you. Let me assure you, I will discipline you but in moderation. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.”

“Have you heard that these people are saying, ‘Yahweh has forsaken Judah and Israel, whom he chose for himself’? They despise my people and no longer consider them as a nation.

So I took the cup from Yahweh’s hand and made all the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink from it.

Yahweh, Israel’s God, spoke these words to me: “Jeremiah, take this cup from my hand; it is the cup of the wine of my wrath. Make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it.

The mighty, gracious hand of the Lord Yahweh will rest upon this mountain, but the Moabites will be trampled under his feet as straw gets trampled into the manure.

My heart cries out for the people of Moab, for her fugitives who flee to Zoar and to Eglath-shelishiyah. Weeping, they climb the upward road to Luhith. Their loud cries of anguish are heard all along the way to Horonaim.

Here is a prophecy concerning Moab: The city of Ar was devastated, destroyed in the night. The city of Kir was devastated, destroyed in the night.

Elamites! I will shatter your confidence before your enemies, who are determined to kill you. In my burning anger, I, Yahweh, will bring disaster on you and pursue you with the sword until I have eliminated you all.
