the earth was completely formless and empty, with nothing but darkness draped over the deep. God’s Spirit hovered over the face of the waters.

For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light. The rising sun will be obscured, and the moon won’t shine.

They will roar and roar on that day like the roaring of crashing waves, and if you look back across the land you’ll see only darkness, disaster, and distress; daylight itself will be obscured by thick clouds.

Be appalled, O heavens, and cringe with fear! Be shocked and utterly devastated at this betrayal! I, Yahweh, have spoken.

I will weep and wail for the mountains and sing mournful songs for the pasturelands, for they are burned, with no one passing through. No one hears the lowing of cattle; birds and beasts of the field have fled—they are gone.

He has shepherded me into dark places with no light.

“Then immediately this is what will take place: ‘The sun will be darkened and the moon give no light. The stars will fall from the sky and all the cosmic powers will be shaken.’

The earth and sky will wear out and fade away before one word I speak loses its power or fails to accomplish its purpose.”

Then I saw a great, dazzling-white throne and the One who sits on it. Heaven and earth fled from his presence and they were no more.
