The Passion Translation

King Nebuchadnezzar had deported Judah’s King Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim to Babylon. He then installed Josiah’s son Zedekiah as king in his place.

Judah’s King Zedekiah sent for Pashhur son of Malchiah and for a priest named Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and he told them, “Tell Jeremiah to intercede for us to Yahweh because Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, is coming to war against us. Perhaps Yahweh will perform an extraordinary miracle for us, as he has done in times past, and cause the king of Babylon to withdraw from us.” Yahweh spoke through Jeremiah to say to them, “Tell King Zedekiah,

Yahweh declares, “As surely as I am the living God, listen, O King Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah. Even if you were the royal signet ring I wear on my right hand, I would still pull you from my finger.

“Is this man Coniah now thrown away like a worthless, broken pot that no one wants? Why are he and his offspring hurled out and taken away to a land they knew not?

Yahweh opened my eyes to see a supernatural vision. It happened after King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had taken into captivity Jehoiakim’s son King Jeconiah, his officials, and all artisans and skilled workers and brought them to Babylon. In this vision, I saw two baskets of figs placed in front of Yahweh’s temple.

Yahweh, God of Israel, then told me to go to Zedekiah king of Judah and give him this message: “Yahweh says to you, ‘I am going to hand over this city to the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.

Thirty-seven years after King Jehoiachin was taken away as a prisoner, on the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month of that year, King Evil-merodach of Babylon showed kindness to Jehoiachin by releasing him from prison. This was in Evil-merodach’s first year as king.
