The Passion Translation

You will not escape from his clutches but will certainly be captured and given over to him. You will see the king of Babylon face-to-face and speak to him in person. Then you will go into exile to Babylon.

He will slaughter them with the sword and show no mercy, pity, or compassion.’ ”

will be carried off to Babylon, and ‘they will stay there until the day that I restore them and bring them back where they belong,’ declares Yahweh.”

Therefore, I say to you, I will hand Jerusalem over to the Babylonians and to Nebuchadnezzar the king, and he will conquer it.

King Zedekiah had imprisoned me because I had prophesied Yahweh’s message: “I am Yahweh, and I am about to let the king of Babylonia conquer Jerusalem.

King Zedekiah will not escape but will be captured and taken to the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, who will see him face-to-face and speak with him in person.

These enemies are the king of Babylon and his army. They have stopped attacking Jerusalem for now, but they still want to kill King Zedekiah of Judah and his officials. So, I will command them to return and attack again. This time they will conquer the city and burn it to the ground. I will hand over King Zedekiah and all his officials. I will also turn the towns of Judah into an inhabitable wasteland.”

So listen now to the promise of Yahweh, Zedekiah king of Judah. I, Yahweh, say that you will not be executed.

King Zedekiah had me secretly brought to his palace. He asked me, “Has Yahweh given you a word for me?” “Yes,” I answered. “Yahweh is going to let you be captured by the king of Babylon.

But if you do not surrender to Nebuchadnezzar’s generals, this city will be handed over to the Babylonians, they will burn it down, and I will make sure that you are taken prisoner by your enemies.’ ”

“Yes, all your wives and children will be marched out into your enemy’s camp. And you, Zedekiah, will be a prisoner in the clutches of the king of Babylon, powerless to escape. And this city will be burned to the ground.”

I will throw my net over him and trap him in it. I will take him to Babylon, to the land of the Chaldeans, where he will die without having seen it.

But he rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar and sent envoys to Egypt to procure himself horses and a large army. Will he get away with that? Will a man who has done this go unpunished? Will he break the treaty and still escape?

As surely as I, Lord Yahweh, live, this king will die in Babylon! He will die in the country of the king who put him on the throne, because he despised his oath and broke the treaty he had made.

“ ‘As for you, wicked and unholy prince of Israel, Lord Yahweh has a message for you. Your doom is approaching. Your time is up, and I will put an end to your crimes. Take off your royal turban and remove your crown. Everything is about to be turned upside down. Lowly ones will be raised up, and those who seem important now will become nobodies.
