The Passion Translation

I, Jeremiah, also delivered a similar message to King Zedekiah of Judah: “You must harness yourself to the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and you will live.

“Well then,” I said to Zedekiah, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, Commander of Angel Armies says, ‘If you go out and surrender to Nebuchadnezzar’s generals, your life will be spared, and Jerusalem will not be burned down. You and your family will survive.

That same year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fifth month of the fourth year, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, a Gibeonite, spoke to me in the temple of Yahweh in the presence of the priests and of all the people:

The nation or kingdom that refuses to submit to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and does not put its neck into the harness of the yoke to serve the king, I will punish,” declares Yahweh. “I will punish it with the sword, food shortages, and pestilence until I have let Nebuchadnezzar completely destroy it.

But the one who always listens to me will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace. Free from fear, confident and courageous, that one will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life.”

You will forfeit, by your own deeds, the wonderful inheritance I have given you to possess. I will make you serve your enemies in a foreign land you have never known, for you have kindled the flame of my anger, which will burn forever.”

“Yahweh, the God of Israel, the Commander of Angel Armies, says, ‘I have shattered the yoke of the king of Babylon.

Stop being afraid of the king of Babylon. Your fears are for nothing, for I am with you to save you and rescue you from his clutches,’ declares Yahweh.

Whoever remains in this city will die by the sword and by food shortages and by pestilence, but whoever goes out and surrenders to the Chaldeans who are besieging you will live, and they will escape with their lives.
