Jeremiah 26:15

The Passion Translation

Only be sure of this: if you put me to death, you will be bringing innocent blood on yourselves, on this city, and on its people, since Yahweh has truly sent me to bring you the warning you have heard.”

Yahweh said, “Listen—the voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground! What have you done?

Then Reuben spoke up, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! So now we’re paying the price for his murder!”

There are six evils God truly hates and a seventh that is an abomination to him:

Putting others down while considering yourself superior, spreading lies and rumors, spilling the blood of the innocent,

“I’ve wasted my time punishing you because you did not respond to my correction. With the ferocity of a hungry lion, you murdered the prophets I sent to you.

Your clothes are stained with the lifeblood of the helpless and innocent, though you did not catch them breaking into your home. Despite all your guilt,

“But your eyes and heart are only interested in what brings you unjust profit, in violently oppressing your people even if it means shedding innocent blood.”

Yahweh says to you: Be concerned for justice and righteousness. Rescue the one who is robbed from his oppressor. Do not exploit or mistreat the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. Stop the violence and do not shed the blood of the innocent in this place.

Then Jeremiah defended himself before all the leaders and the people, saying, “Yahweh himself sent me to prophesy this message you have heard me speak against this temple and this city.

This is the message that Yahweh gave to Jeremiah.

if you don’t mistreat the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow, if you don’t shed innocent blood in this land, if you stop your self-destructive ways of chasing after other gods,

Then finally, Judas the traitor spoke up and asked him, “Teacher, perhaps it is I?” Jesus answered, “You said it.”

That’s when they made their decision to secretly have Jesus captured and killed.

He crumpled to his knees and shouted in a loud voice, “Our Lord, don’t hold this sin against them.” And then he died.

because they shed the blood of your saints and prophets. They got what they deserved, for you gave them blood to drink!”
