The Passion Translation

“ ‘As for the bad figs that were too rotten to eat, they represent King Zedekiah of Judah, his officials, and all the others left in Jerusalem who were not taken away to Babylon, whether they stayed here in Judah or went to live in Egypt.

So I went to Perath and dug up the loincloth from where I had buried it, and I found it ruined. It was worthless.

“ ‘For I am determined to bring calamity to this city, not good, declares Yahweh. I will turn the city over to the king of Babylon, and he will burn it to the ground.’ ”

One basket was full of excellent figs that ripened early, and the other was full of rotten figs that were not fit to eat.

King Zedekiah had me secretly brought to his palace. He asked me, “Has Yahweh given you a word for me?” “Yes,” I answered. “Yahweh is going to let you be captured by the king of Babylon.

Jeremiah finished telling the crowd what the Lord had commanded him.

Here is the word Yahweh gave Jeremiah concerning all the Israelites who were living in Egypt. They were in the cities of Migdol, Tahpanhes, and Memphis, and in the Pathros region.
