The Passion Translation

Therefore, Yahweh says to you, Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: “No one will cry at your funeral or say, ‘How terrible! How sad!’ No one will weep for you or say, ‘How sad! Why did his majesty have to die?’

They will die of deadly diseases. No one will mourn for them or bury them; their bodies will lie like dung on the ground. They will be consumed by the sword and by food shortages, and the birds and beasts will feast on their corpses.”

The least and the greatest alike will die in this land. They will not be buried. No one will mourn for them, cut themselves, or shave their heads to show their grief.

Yahweh spoke through Jeremiah to the household of the king: “Hear the word of Yahweh,

Do not weep for King Josiah, who died, and do not mourn for him; rather, weep bitterly for King Jehoahaz, who is carried away as a captive, for he will never return to see the land of his birth.

He will die in the land of his exile, and he will never see his homeland again.”

You will die in peace, and incense will be burned for you at your funeral as they burned it for the kings before you. They will mourn for you, saying: “How terrible! Our highness is dead!” I, Yahweh, have spoken.’ ”

So now, I, Yahweh, say to you, King Jehoiakim of Judah, people will cast your dead body out on the ground, where it will rot and be exposed to the sun by day and the frost by night. And none of your descendants will succeed you on the throne of David.
