The Passion Translation

They never stopped to ask themselves, ‘Where is Yahweh, who rescued us from Egypt? Where is the Yahweh who led us through the wilderness, through a barren wasteland with its pits and problems? Where is the one who led us through a land of deserts and droughts, dangers and deep darkness — where no one lives nor even passes through?’

Even when your path takes me through the valley of deepest darkness, fear will never conquer me, for you already have! Your authority is my strength and my peace. The comfort of your love takes away my fear. I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.

The priests did not stop and ask, ‘Where is Yahweh?’ The scribal scholars did not intimately know me. The shepherds of the people rebelled against me. The false prophets prophesied by the spirit of Baal, and they worshiped idols that could not help them.

They have lied about Yahweh, saying, “No disaster is coming. We won’t experience sword or famine. He won’t let anything happen to us.

Though they take an oath, saying, ‘As surely as Yahweh lives,’ Yet they are taking my name in vain.”

Her nearby towns have become desolate, a parched land, a desert where no one lives and where nobody goes.

You who spend your days shrouded in darkness can now say, “We have seen a brilliant Light.” And those who live in the dark shadow land of death can now say, “The Dawning Light arises on us.”

“Me?” Gideon replied. “But sir, if Yahweh is truly with us, why have all these troubles come to us? Where are all his miracle-wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, ‘Did not Yahweh deliver us out of Egypt?’ But now Yahweh has abandoned us and put us under the power of the Midianites.”
