“How dare you say, ‘I have not defiled myself. I’ve not chased after false gods.’ Look how you behaved badly in the valley. Don’t you realize what you’ve done? You’re like a restless wild camel running loose

See how they flatter themselves, unable to detect and detest their sins. They are crooked and conceited, convinced they can get away with anything.

All this you have done and I kept silent, so you thought that I was just like you, sanctioning evil. But now I will bring you to my courtroom and spell out clearly my charges before you.

If you cover up your sin you’ll never do well. But if you confess your sins and forsake them, you will be kissed by mercy.

There is a generation rising that considers themselves to be pure in their own eyes, yet they are morally filthy, unwashed, and unclean.

Here is the deceptive way of the adulterous woman: she takes what she wants and then says, “I’ve done nothing wrong.”

Then Yahweh spoke to me concerning these people: “They love to go astray, and they find such pleasure in their wandering. Therefore, I no longer find pleasure in them. Now I will remember all the evil they have done and punish their sins.”

“And when you prophesy all these words to that people, and they ask you, ‘Why has Yahweh decreed all this great evil against us? What is the wrong and the sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God?’

Look how you cheapen yourself by constantly shifting your course. Egypt will put you to shame just as Assyria did.

“Look up to the barren heights and carefully consider: Is there any place where you have not offered yourself as a prostitute? You have sat by the roadside waiting for lovers, sitting like a nomad in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution and wickedness.

Faithless one, how long will you hesitate? For Yahweh is creating something new on earth. A woman will rescue a warrior!”

And in the Hinnom Valley, they have built shrines of Topheth to sacrifice their sons and daughters in the fire—something I never commanded, nor did it ever enter my thoughts.

Instead, they stubbornly followed their hearts’ desires and chased after the Baals, just like their ancestors taught them.

Wanting to justify himself, he questioned Jesus further, saying, “What do you mean by ‘my neighbor’?”

Now, we realize that everything the law says is addressed to those who are under its authority. This is for two reasons: So that every excuse will be silenced, with no boasting of innocence. And so that the entire world will be held accountable to God’s standards.
