Therefore, may their children experience food shortages, and let them be killed by the sword. May death and warfare take away the men and youths, leaving the women as childless widows.

They will be consumed by their own evil and become nothing more than dust under our feet.

These liars will be silenced forever! But with the anointing of a king I will dance and rejoice along with all his devoted lovers who trust in him.

The leaders have led them astray, and the citizens are left in confusion.

That is why the Lord did not show pity to the young people or have compassion on their orphans and widows. For everyone was godless and did evil and each mouth spewed out wickedness. Therefore, the Lord’s anger has not subsided, and his hand is poised to strike them again.

But as for me, Yahweh, you know me fully. You see me, and you understand me. You have tested my feelings for you and found that I am fully devoted to you. Set them aside like sheep that are going to be killed; keep them ready for the time of their slaughter.

And those who foolishly believed these prophecies will meet the same end. They will all die from war and food shortages, along with their wives and sons and daughters. Their bodies will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem, with no one to bury them. For I will bring evil to them as they have been evil.”

I threw you to the wind like straw, scattering you throughout the cities of the earth. I made my people childless and killed them, since they would not repent from their ways.

Their widows became more numerous than the sands of the seas. In broad daylight, I have brought against them an unexpected destroyer to kill young men and mothers alike. Suddenly, I brought upon them terror and panic.

“I, Yahweh, say to you: On that day, your young men will fall in the streets, and all your warriors will perish.

For Death has crept in through our windows, forcing its way past our fortified defenses, cutting down the child playing outside and the young men in the streets.

“The Lord has despised and rejected all the mighty warriors who defended me. He mobilized an army to destroy me and crush my young men. The Lord has trampled like grapes in a winepress the fair daughter of Judah.

We have no fathers; we are orphans, and our mothers are widows.

“ ‘I will judge you with the same death sentence of an adulterer or murderer and bring upon you the fury of my burning rage.

Your prophets plot conspiracies as lions stalk their prey. They have devoured the people, enriched themselves by seizing their wealth and jewels, and left behind many widows.
