I threw you to the wind like straw, scattering you throughout the cities of the earth. I made my people childless and killed them, since they would not repent from their ways.

But how different are the wicked. They are like chaff blown away by the wind.

You will winnow them, and the stormy wind will blow them away! Then you will spin and dance with rejoicing in Yahweh, boasting with admiration in the Holy One of Israel!

I will bring foreigners against Babylon to winnow her and plunder her country. They will attack her on every side in the day of her disaster.

For Death has crept in through our windows, forcing its way past our fortified defenses, cutting down the child playing outside and the young men in the streets.

to prophesy to the people of Israel the words of Lord Yahweh: ‘Behold! I am about to make my sanctuary ritually unclean. My temple has become your boast, the pride of your strength, the delight of your eyes, the joy of your hearts, and you believe it will keep you safe. But your children whom you left behind in Jerusalem will be killed by the sword.

“And you, son of man, this is what will happen on the day that I deprive them of their temple-stronghold, their beautiful joy and glory, their heart’s desire, and their greatest treasure—I will also take away their sons and daughters.

O land of Israel, I will again settle my people on you. They will possess you as their inheritance, and never again will you deprive them of their children.
