If you will not listen, I will weep bitterly in secret from the depths of my soul because of your stubborn pride. My eyes gush with copious tears running down my face, because the flock of Yahweh is taken captive.

When I witness the rebellious breaking your laws, it makes me weep uncontrollably!

God-Enthroned, be revealed in splendor as you ride upon the cherubim! How perfectly you lead us, a people set free. Loving shepherd of Israel—listen to our hearts’ cry! Shine forth from your throne of dazzling light.

Then they remembered God’s deeds in days past, the days of Moses and his people. And they asked: “Where now is Yahweh, who brought them miraculously through the Red Sea along with Moses, the shepherd-leader of his flock, and put his Holy Spirit among them?

“So, Jeremiah, speak your message of sorrow over them: “ ‘My eyes gush with tears day and night. I can’t stop weeping over all that my people have suffered. For my beloved people have suffered a great wound and are left grievously injured. They are as precious to me as a young daughter.

I haven’t joined the crowd at their merry celebrations just to have a good time. I’ve kept to myself because your strong hand upon my life sets me apart. And your anger over what they have done fills me.

But I have not stopped running after you and being a true shepherd. Nor have I secretly longed for the day of disaster. You know every word my lips have spoken, for they were spoken in your presence.

But I swear by myself as a witness, if you do not obey these commands, then this palace shall become a ruin, declares Yahweh!’ ”

Yahweh declares, “Doomed are the shepherds who scatter the sheep of my pasture and cause them to be destroyed!

Therefore, this is what I, Yahweh, the God of Israel, say to the shepherds of my people: You have scattered my flock, driven them away, and failed to take care of them. So, I will be sure to take care of you and deal with you for your evil,” Yahweh declares.

How I wish my head were a reservoir that could weep a fountain of tears. I would weep day and night for my beloved ones who have been slain!

“This is why I weep bitterly, as tears stream down my cheeks. Truly, no one is here to comfort me or revive my life. My children no longer have a future, for the enemy has triumphed.”

She is weeping bitterly through the night, with tears streaming down her cheeks. Among all her lovers, not one can be found to comfort her. Her friends have all betrayed her and have now become her enemies.

Her filth stains her skirts— she never pictured this outcome. Therefore, her fall is terrible with no one to comfort her. Jerusalem groans, “Yahweh, look how miserable I am; all the while my enemy gloats!”

Beloved Zion, let your walls wail and your heart cry out to Yahweh. Let a waterfall of tears flow day and night. Give your eyes no rest; let tears keep streaming from your eyes.

My eyes stream with torrents of tears as I weep over the ruin of my beloved people.

“Son of man, behold, in the blink of an eye I am about to take from you your heart’s dearest treasure, the one you love the most. But you must not weep or wail or let your tears stream down your cheeks.

And you, my people, are my sheep, the flock of my pasture are people, and I am your God. I, Lord Yahweh, have spoken.’ ”

You will be as numerous as the huge flock of sacrificial animals in Jerusalem during her solemn feasts. Your cities that were once filled with rubble will be filled with flocks of people. And then you will know that I am Yahweh.’ ”

and Yahweh said to him, “Go throughout Jerusalem, and place a mark on the foreheads of all who grieve and are greatly distressed over all the disgusting things done in the city.”
