Throughout our history God has spoken to our ancestors by his prophets in many different ways. The revelation he gave them was only a fragment at a time, building one truth upon another.
For as the loincloth clings snugly to the loins of a man, so I brought close to me all the people of Israel and Judah, says Yahweh. I wanted them to cling to me as my people and bring honor to me and proclaim my glory. But they would not obey.”
As a prophetic gesture, he took Paul’s belt and tied his own hands and feet with it as he prophesied, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘The one who owns this belt will be tied up in this same way by the Jews and they will hand him over to those who are not Jews.’ ”
Then the Lord Yahweh said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a prophetic sign and a wonder as a warning of what is coming to Egypt and Cush,
“Take some large stones to the entrance of Pharaoh’s royal building in Tahpanhes. Bury the stones underneath the clay pavement and make sure the people of Judah are watching.
