“My dearly beloved ones have done so much evil that they no longer have a right to come into my temple. Can the flesh of their many sacrifices avert their doom? When I send calamity, they will have nothing to be joyful about.

And now I speak to the wicked. Listen to what I have to say to you! What right do you have to presume to speak for me and claim my covenant promises as yours?

Come to your beloved ones and gently draw us out. For Lord, you save those whom you love. Come with your might and strength!

The fool finds fun in planning to do wrong, but the wise delight in having discernment.

It is despicable to the Lord when people use the worship of the Almighty as a cloak for their sin, but every prayer of the righteous is pleasing to his heart.

They take pleasure when evil prospers and thoroughly enjoy a lifestyle of sin.

To bring an offering to God with an ulterior motive is detestable, for it amounts to nothing but hypocrisy.

The one who is caught lying to his friend, who says, “I didn’t mean it, I was only joking,” can be compared to a madman randomly shooting off deadly weapons.

If you close your heart and refuse to listen to God’s instruction, even your prayer will be despised.

Yahweh asks, “Have I abandoned you? Can you show me your mother’s divorce papers that prove I sent her away? Do you think I sold you into slavery to pay off a debt? No, you sold yourselves into slavery because of your sins, and because of your rebellion I sent your mother away!

“I have abandoned my house of Israel and deserted the people I call my own. I have surrendered the beloved of my soul over to her enemies.

Woe to you, Jerusalem! I have seen your adulteries, your lustful neighing, your shameless prostitution, your vile acts on the hills and in the fields. How long will you continue being unclean?”

Then Yahweh said to me: “Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me to intercede for these people, I would not turn my heart back to them. Send them away from me and make them go.

“Go, preach this message publicly for all Jerusalem to hear: ‘Yahweh says to you: “ ‘I fondly remember the single-hearted devotion you had for me in your youth. You loved me deeply as a bride loves a bridegroom. You followed me closely in the desert, in a land where no crops grow.

Yahweh declares, “Even the prophets and priests are ungodly! I have seen their wickedness in my own temple.

“ ‘I say to you, Come back to me, my wayward children, and I will restore you. I will take you, one from each city and two from each clan, and bring you home to Zion because I alone am your true husband.’ ”

She saw me give unfaithful Israel her divorce papers and send her away because of her continued adultery. Her treacherous sister, Judah, likewise had no fear; she, too, acted like a prostitute.

Now, when the king entered the banquet hall, he looked with glee over all his guests. But then he noticed a guest who was not wearing the wedding robe provided for him.

Now, many of the Jews are opposed to the gospel, but their opposition has opened the door of the gospel to you who are not Jewish. Yet they are still greatly loved by God because their ancestors were divinely chosen to be his.

Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong.

It’s true that all is pure to those who have pure hearts, but to the corrupt unbelievers nothing is pure. Their minds and consciences are defiled.

But here you are, boasting in your ignorance, for to be presumptuous about what you’ll do tomorrow is evil!
