And the same is true of the prostitute named Rahab who was found righteous in God’s eyes by her works, for she received the spies into her home and helped them escape from the city by another route.

Faith provided a way of escape for Rahab the prostitute, avoiding the destruction of the unbelievers, because she received the Hebrew spies in peace.

But someone might object and say, “One person has faith and another person has works.” Go ahead then and prove to me that you have faith without works and I will show you faith by my works as proof that I believe.

Can’t you see how his action cooperated with his faith and by his action faith found its full expression?

So now it’s clear that a person is seen as righteous in God’s eyes not merely by faith alone, but by his works.

Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent out two spies from their camp at Acacia. He told them, “Go and explore the land of Canaan, especially Jericho.” They went and arrived at Jericho and entered the house of Rahab the prostitute and lodged there.

Rahab’s house was built into the city wall, so she let them down from the window by a rope.

She told them, “Head for the hill country and hide. The men chasing you won’t find you there. Hide for three days until they have returned, then you’ll be safe to go your way.”

But Rahab had already hidden the two men. “Yes,” she said. “The men came to me, but I had no idea where they were from.

(Rahab had hidden the men on her rooftop under stalks of flax she had spread out to dry on the roof.)

Jericho and everything in it are to be a devoted offering to Yahweh. But spare Rahab the prostitute and everyone in her house because she hid our spies.
