Isaiah 38:10

The Passion Translation

I was dying in the prime of life. I thought, “Must I leave this world now? Must I go through the gates of death and miss out on the rest of my years?”

So I cry out to you, my God, Father of eternity, please don’t let me die! I know my life is not yet finished.

With your hands you once formed the foundations of the earth and handcrafted the heavens above.

Sick and feeble, unable to stand the sight of food, we drew near to the gates of death.

Listen to me, all you godly ones: Love the Lord with passion! The Lord protects and preserves all those who are loyal to him. But he pays back in full all those who reject him in their pride.

Now, Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, came and prophesied to him, saying, “This is what Yahweh has to say to you: Set your affairs in order, for you will not recover from this illness. You are going to die.”

Here is the poem of Hezekiah, king of Judah, which he wrote when he was healed from his illness:

It felt like we had a death sentence written upon our hearts, and we still feel it to this day. It has taught us to lose all faith in ourselves and to place all of our trust in the God who raises the dead.
