A prophecy for Tyre and Sidon: Wail, you cargo ships of Tarshish! For Tyre, your port city, has fallen without a house or a harbor! Word has come to them from the land of Cyprus.

“How disastrous it will be for the city of Korazin! How horrible for the city of Bethsaida! For if the powerful miracles that I performed in Korazin and Bethsaida had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have humbled themselves, repented, and turned from their sins.

Cross over to Tarshish. Wail, you inhabitants of the coast.

“Son of man, the people of Tyre have been cheering the demise of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Hooray! She is fallen! The Gateway to the Nations is shattered! An opportunity has swung open for us. Now we will grow rich off her destruction!’

They made your oars from oaks of Bashan, and made you a fine deck with pines they took from the coasts of Cyprus, and they decorated it with ivory.

They will wail aloud over you and weep bitterly. They will throw dust on their heads in mourning and lie in ashes.
