Worthless idols are everywhere, and they worship the work of their own hands, what their fingers have made.

They will not be infatuated with the religious altars their own hands crafted, nor by what their own fingers have made, nor with their sacred groves or altars of incense.

Lord Yahweh, our God, other lords have ruled over us, but we praise your name alone.

They smashed and burned their gods, for they’re not truly gods but mere idols made by human hands shaped from wood and stone. That’s why they could be destroyed.

A craftsman forms an idol-god, then a goldsmith overlays it with gold and forges its silver chains.

Look, all these gods are nothingness! What have they ever accomplished? Their metal images are nothing but empty wind and confusion!

You burn with lust for other gods among the oak groves and under every green tree. You sacrifice your own children in the caves near the bed of a stream.

I will pass sentence against the people of Jerusalem and Judah for all their wickedness in deserting me. They have sacrificed to other gods and worshiped the works of their hands.

The people of Judah worship as many gods as they have cities. They have as many altars to burn incense to that shameful one, Baal, as they have streets in Jerusalem.

Now where are all your homemade gods? They are nowhere to be found. Let them arise and save you in your time of trouble! Judah, you have as many gods as you have villages!

While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was deeply troubled when he realized that the entire city was full of idols.

Those not killed by these plagues did not repent of their deeds so that they would stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—blind and mute idols that have to be carried around.
