Let them disappear like water falling on thirsty ground. Let all their weapons be useless.

A prophecy concerning Egypt: Behold! The Lord Yahweh is riding on a swift-soaring cloud! He is on his way to Egypt! The god-idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the hearts of the Egyptians will melt within them!

The inhabitants were frightened and ashamed. They became as fragile as weeds and tender grass, as short-lived as the grass that grows on the rooftop and is scorched before the east wind.

Your children have fainted and lie fallen in the streets, like a gazelle caught in a net. Yahweh’s anger, the rebuke of your God, has overwhelmed them.

The king of Babylon heard the news, and his strength melted away. Anguish seized him, like the pain of a woman in labor.

Babylon’s warriors had enough of fighting, so they stayed inside their forts. With their courage melted away, they have been left like ordinary civilians. Their city gates have been broken through, and her houses are on fire.

Shout and wail, son of man, for the sword will come against my people, and all the leaders of Israel. They are thrown to the sword like the rest of my people. So beat your breast in anguish,

And when they ask, ‘Why these groans?’ reply, ‘Because of what I’ve heard is about to happen. Every heart will melt with fear, and every hand grow limp. Everyone will faint with fright and wet themselves. Behold, it is coming now! It is here!’ I, Lord Yahweh, have spoken.”

Every hand will grow weak. Gripped with fear, they wet themselves.

As soon as we heard it, our hearts melted with fear, and we were left with no courage among us because of you. Yahweh, your God, is the true God who rules in heaven above and on earth below.
