The Passion Translation

Babylon will never rise again, nor will she be inhabited for many generations. Bedouins will not even pitch their tents there, and shepherds will refuse to rest their flocks there.

Won’t you tell me, lover of my soul, where do you feed your flock? Where do you lead your beloved ones to rest in the heat of the day? Why should I be like a veiled woman as I wander among the flocks of your shepherds?

“I will turn it into a swampland and a place for wild animals. Like dirt on the floor I will sweep it away with the broom of destruction,” declares the Lord Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies.

Here is a prophecy concerning Babylon, the Desert by the Sea: As whirlwinds rushing in from the southland, an invader comes in from the desert, from a land to be feared.

The city that was once mighty you’ve turned into a heap of rubble; the fortified city now lies in ruins. The foreigner’s fortress is no more and will never be rebuilt.

He is the one who apportioned it to them by lot, whose hand measured the share of each. They will possess it for all time and dwell there throughout the ages.

Hazor will become desolate, the haunt of jackals, an empty, uninhabited desert.”

Because of Yahweh’s anger, Babylon will become desolate and uninhabited forever. Everyone who passes by will be shocked to see what has happened and will hiss out their scorn.

Yahweh says: “Now, carry out my instructions to the letter. Attack the land of Merathaim and those who live in Pekod! Kill them and destroy everything they leave behind.

For a nation is attacking Babylon from the north that will reduce her nation to a desert. People and animals will flee, and no one will inhabit it.”

Demons and dark spirits dwell in Babylon, and ostriches make their home there. For all generations, no one will live there again.

So now, listen to the plans that I have against you, Babylon. Listen to what I have in store for the land of the Chaldeans. Like little lambs, your children will be dragged away before your own eyes, and everyone will be horrified!

I have become your enemy,” says Yahweh, “O mountain of destruction, destroyer of the whole world! I will unleash my power against you, send you tumbling to the ground, and turn you into a mountain of soot and ashes.

Then, when Yahweh executed his plan against Babylon, the earth trembled and convulsed. He determined to make Babylon an uninhabited desert.

Babylon will be reduced to a pile of ruins, the haunt of jackals, a thing of horror and scorn, a place where no one lives.

Her nearby towns have become desolate, a parched land, a desert where no one lives and where nobody goes.
