The Passion Translation

And when Yahweh smelled the sweet fragrance of Noah’s offerings, his heart was stirred, and he said, “Never again will I curse the earth because of people, even though the imagination of their hearts are evil from their childhood; nor will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done. I promise this:

And to Adam he said, “Because you obeyed your wife instead of me, and you ate from the forbidden tree when I had commanded you not to, the ground will be cursed because of you. You will eat of it through painful toil all the days of your life.

When you try to cultivate the ground it will no longer produce crops for you; and you will be a fugitive, a homeless wanderer!”

and named him Noah, saying, “He will relieve us from our hard work and painful toil, and from the ground that Yahweh cursed.”

So God said to Noah, “I have decided that all living creatures must die, for their violence has filled the earth, and I will wipe them off the face of the earth!

I am going to release a great flood that will destroy all life upon the earth, and every breathing thing under heaven will perish—everything on earth will die.

But Yahweh saw how extremely wicked humanity had become, for they imagined only evil, for all they thought about was doing evil all the time.

So Yahweh decided, “I will do away with my ruined creation—human beings that I created—people and animals, creeping things and flying birds, for it breaks my heart that I made them!”

Lord, I have been a sinner from birth, from the moment my mother conceived me.

Wicked wanderers even from the womb—that’s who you are! You lie with your words, and your teaching is poison.

Which one of us can truly say, “I am free from sin in my life, for my heart is clean and pure”?

“So go ahead—keep trusting in your sorceries and the witchcraft you’ve practiced since your youth. Perhaps you might succeed! Perhaps you’ll scare away your impending doom!

These traders, with whom you have dealt since your youth, will do nothing but disappoint you. Each has wandered off to his own way— there is no one left to rescue you!”

“You have never heard nor understood; your ear had not been opened beforehand. Though I knew that you would fight against me as a rebel from birth,

Like wayward sheep, we have all wandered astray. Each of us has turned from God’s paths and chosen our own way; even so, Yahweh laid the guilt of our every sin upon him.

Their verdict is determined before me, and I will not keep silent: ‘I will repay them for what they have done; I will pay them back for what their sins deserve,

There is nothing more deceitful than the heart of man; who can understand it? Man’s heart is sick, in need of healing.

“But they will answer: ‘It’s too late! We’ll live as we choose and be just as stubborn and evil as we want to be.’ ”

I have listened carefully to what they say, but nothing they say is right. No one is sorry about his sin, saying, “What have I done wrong?” Everyone keeps on going his own way, like a war-horse plunging headlong into battle.

I will take you out from among the nations and lands where you have been scattered and gather you together. Then I will be pleased with you just as I am pleased with the sweet aroma of burning sacrifices. And I will put my holiness on display through you before the nations.

You will find living within an impure heart evil ideas, murderous thoughts, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, lies, and slander.

For the natural realm only gives birth to things that are natural, but the spiritual realm gives birth to supernatural life!

Throughout human history the fingerprints of God were upon them, yet they refused to honor him as God or even be thankful for his kindness. Instead, they entertained corrupt and foolish thoughts about what God was like. This left them with nothing but misguided hearts, steeped in moral darkness.

for we all have sinned and are in need of the glory of God.

We have become the unmistakable aroma of the victory of the Anointed One to God —a perfume of life to those being saved and the odor of death to those who are perishing.

And continue to walk surrendered to the extravagant love of Christ, for he surrendered his life as a sacrifice for us. His great love for us was pleasing to God, like an aroma of adoration—a sweet healing fragrance.

I now have all I need—more than enough—I’m abundantly satisfied! For I’ve received the gift you sent by Epaphroditus and viewed it as a sweet sacrifice, perfumed with the fragrance of your faithfulness, which is so pleasing to God!

We know that we are God’s children and that the whole world lies under the misery and influence of the Evil One.
