But they rebelled against him and grieved his Holy Spirit. Only then did he turn against them. He became their enemy and fought against them.

The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life.

This ignited my anger with that generation and I said about them, ‘They wander in their hearts just like they do with their feet, and they refuse to learn my ways.’

“Say to them, ‘As surely as I, Lord Yahweh, exist—I take no delight in the death of the wicked, but I delight in seeing them turn from their ways so they can live. So, repent and turn from your evil ways. People of Israel, why would you want to die? Turn and come back to me!’

“Did King Hezekiah and the people of Judah sentence Micah to death for prophesying this? Did not the king rather fear Yahweh, humble himself, and plead earnestly with him so that he relented of the disaster that he had decreed against them? Do we really want to bring a disaster upon ourselves with such a crime?”

If only you had listened to my commands, then peace would have flowed like a river for you and success would wash over you like waves of the sea.

Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change.

They grieved God for forty years by sinning in their unbelief, until they dropped dead in the desert.

I grieve when I see how the faithless ones live, for they just walk away from your promises.

Yahweh has taken a solemn oath and will never back away from it, saying, “You are a priest for eternity, after the manner of Melchizedek!”

So for forty long years I was grieved and disgusted by them. I described them as wicked wanderers whose hearts would not follow my ways or keep my words.

O that my people would once and for all listen to me and walk faithfully in my footsteps, following my ways.

How many times they rebelled in their desert days! How they grieved him with their grumblings.

And when God chooses someone and graciously imparts gifts to him, they are never rescinded.

So Yahweh decided, “I will do away with my ruined creation—human beings that I created—people and animals, creeping things and flying birds, for it breaks my heart that I made them!”

If I speak of uprooting, breaking down, or destroying a nation or a kingdom,
