The Passion Translation

But Joseph’s bow remained steady, because the power of the Mighty One of Jacob strengthened him, by the name of the loving Shepherd, the Rock of Israel.

For there will be five more years of famine, but I will provide all that you need to live in Goshen. You, your household, and all that you have will not live in poverty.” ’

Now don’t be grieved. Don’t blame yourselves because you sold me here. It was God who sent me ahead of you in order to save lives.

God sent me ahead of you to ensure that you would live and have descendants. He has saved your lives through this marvelous act of deliverance.

Joseph also provided his father and brothers and their families, down to their little ones, with all the food they needed.

He spoke this blessing over them: “May the God of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, who lived devoted to him, the God who has been my Shepherd from my birth until this day,

Persecutors fiercely attacked him; they pursued him with their bow and arrows.

Then with more kind, reassuring words, Joseph comforted his brothers.

The very stone the masons rejected as flawed has turned out to be the most important capstone of the arch, holding up the very house of God.

Lord, please don’t forget all the hardships David had to pass through.

And how he promised you, Jacob’s mighty God, saying,

until I find a place for you to dwell, O mighty God of Jacob. I devote myself to finding a resting place for you!”

I love you, Yahweh, and I’m bonded to you, my strength!

Yahweh, what a perfect God you are! All Yahweh’s promises have proven true. What a secure shelter for all those who turn to hide themselves in you, the wraparound God.

Yahweh is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough.

Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope. Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint you!

You will be the inner strength of all your people, Yahweh, the mighty protector of all, and the saving strength for all your anointed ones.

Only you will be our Savior from all our enemies. All those who hate us you have brought to shame.

Yet, in spite of all this, I still belong to you; you hold me by my right hand.

God-Enthroned, be revealed in splendor as you ride upon the cherubim! How perfectly you lead us, a people set free. Loving shepherd of Israel—listen to our hearts’ cry! Shine forth from your throne of dazzling light.

This forever-song I sing of the gentle love of God! Young and old alike will hear about your faithful, steadfast love—never failing!

Therefore, here is what the Sovereign One, the Lord God of Angel Armies, the Mighty One of Israel, decrees: “Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries and avenge myself on my foes!

Here’s what the Lord God says: “Behold, I set in place in Zion a Foundation Stone, fully tested and proven to be faithful and secure. And written upon this precious cornerstone is this: ‘Those who trust in him will not act in haste.’

Those who are in spiritual error will come to understanding, and those who are always complaining will be glad to accept instruction.”

Do not yield to fear, for I am always near. Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God. I will infuse you with my strength and help you in every situation. I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.’

I will cause the violence of your oppressors to come back upon them, and your enemies will kill one another in a killing frenzy! Then all the earth will know that I am Yahweh, your Savior, your Kinsman-Redeemer, the mighty hero of Jacob’s tribes.”

You will guzzle the milk of nations and suckle at the breast of kings. You will know me intimately that I am Yahweh, your Savior, for I am the Mighty Hero who rules over Jacob’s tribes, your Kinsman-Redeemer!”

Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read the Scripture that says: The very stone the builder rejected as flawed has now become the most important cornerstone. This was the Lord’s plan — isn’t it marvelous to behold?

Haven’t you read what the psalmist said? The stone the builders examined and rejected has become the cornerstone, the most important stone of all?

Jesus looked straight at the people and their leaders and said, “What do you think this verse means? ‘The worthless, rejected stone has become the cornerstone, the most important stone of all.’

This Jesus is ‘the stone that you, the builders, have rejected, and now he has become the cornerstone!’

Who do you think you are to sit in judgment of someone else’s household servant? His own master is the one to evaluate whether he succeeds or fails. And God’s servants will succeed, for God’s power supports them and enables them to stand.

You are rising like the perfectly fitted stones of the temple; and your lives have been built up together upon the foundation laid by the apostles and prophets, and best of all, you are connected to the Head Cornerstone of the building, the Anointed One, Jesus Christ himself!

And we pray that you would be energized with all his explosive power from the realm of his magnificent glory, filling you with great hope.

For in spite of this, my Lord himself stood with me, empowering me to complete my ministry of preaching to all the non-Jewish nations so they all could hear the message and be delivered from the mouth of the lion!

Therefore, I will give you the hill country as well. It is a forest, but Yahweh will empower you to take possession of it and clear it from one end to the other. You will conquer all the Canaanites even though they not only have iron chariots but also are a strong people.”

Yahweh’s presence and power were with Joseph’s descendants, so they advanced toward Bethel and sent men ahead to spy out the city that was formerly known as Luz.
