The Passion Translation

For when I was returning from Paddan-Aram, my beloved Rachel died, to my sorrow, in the land of Canaan while we were still on our way, not far from Ephrath. So I buried her there beside the road to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).”

When he was forty, he married Rebekah. She was the daughter of Bethuel and the sister of Laban. Both her father and brother were Arameans from Paddan-Aram.

Jacob’s journey home from Paddan-Aram finally brought him safe and sound to the Canaanite city of Shechem, where he camped just outside of the city.

Jacob set up a pillar to mark her burial site, and it is known as The Marker of Rachel’s Tomb to this day.

After Jacob returned from Paddan-Aram, God appeared to him once again and blessed him,

As for any children born after them, they will be considered yours. They will receive their portion of the inheritance in the same territory as their brothers.

I hear the screams of anguish, weeping, and wailing in Ramah. Rachel is weeping uncontrollably for her children. And she refuses to be comforted, because they are dead and gone.
