After the Ishmaelite traders brought Joseph down to Egypt, he was purchased by an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, whose name was Potiphar.

So Joseph’s master took him and threw him into prison, the place where the king’s prisoners are confined, and he was left there.

The warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care; he was placed in charge of all the prisoners and everything in the prison.

The warden had no worries about the prison with Joseph in charge, because Yahweh’s presence was with Joseph and caused everything Joseph did to prosper.

The captain of the guard placed them under Joseph’s charge, and they remained in custody for some time.

Once, when Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he incarcerated me and the chief baker in the prison of Potiphar, the captain of the guard.
