The Passion Translation

He encountered a certain place at sunset and camped there for the night. He took a stone from there, made it his pillow, and lay down to sleep.

As the heavy veil of night fell, Abram went into a deep state of sleep, and suddenly a great dreadful darkness surrounded him and he was filled with fear.

Early in the morning, Jacob took the stone he had under his head, set it up as a pillar and anointed it by pouring oil over the top of it.

He named that place Bethel; though the city was once called Luz.

and in the presence of his relatives, he said to them, “Everyone gather stones, and place them here in a pile.” And they did so, and afterward, they ate together next to the heap of stones.

Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens, birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no true home in this world.”

And just as we experience the abundance of Christ’s own sufferings, even more of God’s comfort will cascade upon us through our union with Christ.
