Genesis 27:41

The Passion Translation

Esau hated Jacob because he stole his blessing. He said to himself, “In a short time my father will be gone. After the time for mourning his death has passed, I will kill my brother Jacob!”

But when Rebekah found out about her older son Esau’s plan, she quickly sent for her younger son Jacob, and said to him, “Listen, your brother Esau is planning to exact revenge by killing you.

Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I’m afraid he will come and kill all of us, including the women and children.

Jacob sent messengers ahead to his brother Esau who was living in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

When the messengers returned to Jacob, they informed him, “We gave your brother Esau your message, and he himself is coming here to meet you. In fact, he’s on his way now with four hundred men!”

He died an old man and had lived a full life when he joined his ancestors. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him there.

As he was still a long distance away, the brothers recognized him by his robe, and by the time he reached them, they had plotted together to kill him.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father loved him more than he loved them, they hated him and would not speak a kind word to him.

His brothers asked him, “Oh, so you think you’re going to be our king? Do you actually think you’re destined to rule over us?” So, the dream that he told them about made them hate him even more.

When the brothers realized they were now without their father, they said, “What if Joseph still bears a grudge against us and decides to pay us back for all the trouble we brought on him?”

When he was able to compose himself, he ordered the royal physicians to embalm his father. So, they began the required forty-day process. The Egyptians mourned for Israel for seventy days,

For when I was desperate, overwhelmed, and about to give up, you were the only one there to help. You gave me a way of escape from the hidden traps of my enemies.

I grieved for them, heavyhearted, as though they were my dearest family members or my good friends who were sick, nearing death, needing prayer.

It is much better to have little combined with much of God than to have the fabulous wealth of the wicked and nothing else.

For crime is their way of life and bloodshed their specialty.

It is easier to conquer a strong city than to win back a friend whom you’ve offended. Their walls go up, making it nearly impossible to win them back.

Their twisted thoughts are perverse, and they are always scheming to stir up trouble, and sowing strife with every step they take.

You have been an enemy of Israel for a very long time. You betrayed the Israelites and gave them over to be slaughtered at the time of their calamity, the crucial moment of their final punishment.

For it wasn’t that long ago that we behaved foolishly in our stubborn disobedience. We were easily led astray as slaves to worldly passions and pleasures. We wasted our lives in doing evil, and with hateful jealousy we hated others.
