Genesis 26:3

The Passion Translation

Live there as a foreigner, and my presence will be with you. I promise to bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and your descendants. I will fulfill the oath I swore to your father Abraham.

Never forget—I am always with you and will protect you wherever you go. And one day I will bring you back to this land, for I will neither leave you nor fail to fulfill every word I have promised you.”

Abraham journeyed from the oaks of Mamre to the southern region of Canaan and settled between Kadesh and Shur, to live as a temporary resident in Gerar.

I will give to you and your seed the land to which you have migrated. The entire land of Canaan will be yours and your descendants’ as an everlasting possession. And I will be their God forever!”

On that day, Yahweh entered into covenant with Abram: “I have given this land to your descendants, from the Egyptian border to the great river Euphrates,

Now, get up and walk through the land—its length and its breadth. All the land you walk upon will be my gift to you!”

As far as you can see in every direction is the land that I will give to you forever—to you and your seed.

Then Yahweh appeared before Abram and said, “This is the land I will personally deliver to your seed.” So Abram erected an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared before him.

He lived by faith as an immigrant in his promised land as though it belonged to someone else. He journeyed through the land living in tents with Isaac and Jacob who were persuaded that they were also co-heirs of the same promise.

Put into practice the example of all that you have heard from me or seen in my life and the God of peace will be with you in all things.

I am with you now, even close to you, so never yield to fear. I will bring your children from the east; from the west I will gather you.

When you pass through the deep, stormy sea, you can count on me to be there with you. When you pass through raging rivers, you will not drown. When you walk through persecution like fiery flames, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you,

I hear the Lord saying, “I will stay close to you, instructing and guiding you along the pathway for your life. I will advise you along the way and lead you forth with my eyes as your guide. So don’t make it difficult; don’t be stubborn when I take you where you’ve not been before. Don’t make me tug you and pull you along. Just come with me!”

But Yahweh was with Joseph and demonstrated to him his faithful love by giving him great favor in the sight of the warden.

Yahweh’s presence was with Joseph and he became successful while living in the house of his Egyptian master.

He acquired so many flocks and herds and so many servants that the Philistines grew jealous,

Isaac planted crops in that land, and in the same year reaped a hundred-fold harvest, for Yahweh greatly blessed him!

So in the same way, God wanted to end all doubt and confirm it even more forcefully to those who would inherit his promises. His purpose was unchangeable, so God added his vow to the promise.

Lord, listen to all my tender cries. Read my every tear, like liquid words that plead for your help. I feel all alone at times, like a stranger to you, passing through this life just like all those before me.

After Abraham had passed, God greatly blessed his son Isaac, and Isaac settled near the well named the Well of the Living One Who Watches Over Me.

That very night, Yahweh appeared before him and said: “I am the God of Abraham your father. You will never need to fear a thing for I am with you and I will greatly bless you. Your children will flourish and succeed because of the promises I gave my servant Abraham.”

And Yahweh stood beside him and said to him, “I am Yahweh, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. You are lying on the very ground that I will give to you and your descendants.

Then Yahweh said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your ancestors where you were born; and remember, I will be with you.”

I will give you the land which I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, and after you are gone, to your descendants.”

Then Israel said to Joseph, “Son, I will die soon, but God’s presence will go with you, and one day, he will take you back to the land of your ancestors.

Then Joseph declared to his brothers, “I will die one day, but God will certainly come to you and fulfill his promises to bring you and your descendants from this land and lead you to the land he promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

God said, “Listen to me. I promise that you and Sarah will have a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will confirm my everlasting covenant of love with him and his seed.

For though a thousand generations may pass away, he is still true to his word. He has kept every promise he made to Abraham and to Isaac.
