The Passion Translation

Isaac reopened and restored the wells his father Abraham had originally dug—the wells the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham’s death. And Isaac gave these wells the same names that his father had given them.

But Abraham voiced a complaint about a well of water which Abimelech’s servants had seized by force.

He replied, “I am giving them to you, and by accepting these seven ewe lambs, you acknowledge the proof that I dug this well and it belongs to me.”

That place was called Beersheba, because it was there that both men swore an oath to one another.

So Isaac departed from Abimelech’s domain and camped near the Wadi of Gerar, where he settled.

One day, when Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, they uncovered a spring-fed well.

Yet there are those who yield to their weakness, and they will have troubles unending. I never gather with such ones, nor give them honor in any way.
