The Passion Translation

Abraham rose up early the next morning, bundled up some food and a skin of water, and strapped them to Hagar’s shoulders. Then he gave her his son and sent them away. So, Hagar and her son Ishmael departed and wandered off into the wilderness of Beersheba.

The angel of Yahweh encountered Hagar by a spring in the wilderness, the spring on the way to Shur.

That morning, Abraham hurried back to the place where he had stood before Yahweh.

Rest assured, I will make the son of your slave woman into a nation too, because he is your son.”

When the water was gone, she grew desperate, so she left her son under a bush.

That place was called Beersheba, because it was there that both men swore an oath to one another.

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he worshiped Yahweh, the everlasting God.

So Abraham and Isaac returned to the waiting servants, and they departed for Beersheba, where Abraham had settled.

Early the next morning, Abraham cut the wood for the burnt offering, loaded it on his donkey, and set out for the distant place God had shown him. He took with him two of his servants, and his son Isaac.

Afterward, the servant and his men ate and drank, and they spent the night in Laban’s home. First thing in the morning, he said to them, “Allow me now to return to my master.”

but to his sons by his concubines he gave gifts while he was still living. He sent them all away eastward, separating them from his son Isaac.

Then the next morning, they got up early and exchanged oaths. Isaac said goodbye to them, and they left Isaac in peace.

So he named it Oath. This is why the city where they dug the well is called Beersheba to this day.

Early in the morning, Jacob took the stone he had under his head, set it up as a pillar and anointed it by pouring oil over the top of it.

and began to roam the countryside looking for his brothers, a man approached him and asked, “What are you looking for?”

Israel packed up all he had and went to Beersheba, where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

Some of us once wandered in the wilderness like desert nomads, with no true direction or dwelling place.
