You will no longer be named Abram because I am changing your name to Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.

God also said to Abraham: “Concerning your wife Sarai, you are not to call her Sarai anymore, but Sarah, ‘My Princess,’ will be her name.

“Not anymore,” the man said to him. “Your new name is Israel, for you have struggled both with God and with people and have overcome.”

Jacob said, “Please, tell me your name.” “Why ask my name?” the man replied, then he spoke a blessing over Jacob.

saying, “Your name was once Jacob, but no longer. Your new name is Israel!” God named him Israel

When you die, your name will become a curse used by my chosen ones. The Lord God will put you to death, but his godly servants will leave behind the legacy of an honorable name.

The next morning, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “Pashhur, Yahweh has given you a new name—Terror Everywhere!

Under his rule, Judah and Israel will be kept safe and secure. He will be known by this name: Yahweh, Our Righteousness!

Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. When he gazed upon Andrew’s brother, he prophesied to him, “You are Simon and your father’s name is John. But from now on, everyone will call you Cephas” (which means, Peter the Rock).

That’s what the Scripture means when it says: “I have made you the father of many nations.” He is our example and father, for in God’s presence he believed that God can raise the dead and call into being things that don’t even exist yet.

But the one whose heart is open, let him listen carefully to what the Spirit is presently saying to all the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will let him feast on the hidden manna and give him a shining white stone. And written upon the white stone is inscribed his new name, known only to the one who receives it.
