Yahweh said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a female goat, and a ram, each three years old, also a turtledove and a young pigeon.”

So, Abram brought the animals to him and killed them. He cut them in two (except the birds) and laid each half opposite the other in two rows.

But Abram said, “Lord Yahweh, how can I be sure that I can possess this land for myself?”

As Abraham looked up, his eyes fell upon a ram caught by its horns in a nearby thicket. Abraham took the ram and sacrificed it on the altar as a burnt offering in Isaac’s place.

“Gather all my devoted lovers, my godly ones whose hearts are one with me— those who have entered into my holy covenant by sacrifices upon the altar.”
