The Passion Translation

Righteousness belongs to you, Lord, but we are all covered with shame even to this day—the people of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel, near and far. You have scattered us to many lands because of our treachery against you.

Lord, your judgments reveal your righteousness, and your verdicts are always fair.

There’s no escape from this constant curse, this humiliation! We are despised, jeered, overwhelmed by shame, and overcome at every turn by our hateful and heartless enemies.

O God, my saving God, deliver me fully from every sin, even the sin that brought bloodguilt. Then my heart will once again be thrilled to sing the passionate songs of joy and deliverance!

On that day, the Lord will extend his hand a second time to restore the remnant of his people from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and the coastlands of the sea.

All the idol-makers will be ashamed and disgraced, and each one will walk away in confusion.

Yahweh, whenever I complain to you, you always prove to be right. Nevertheless, hear my plea that I bring to you. Why is it that wicked people are successful? Why do scoundrels live so secure and serene?

Under his rule, Judah and Israel will be kept safe and secure. He will be known by this name: Yahweh, Our Righteousness!

I will punish them with such a disaster that everyone on earth will tremble in horror when they hear about it. I will force the people of Judah to go to foreign countries, where they will be an object of scorn, cursing, and insult.

We deserve to lie down in our shame and be covered by our disgrace. Ever since we were young, we and our ancestors have sinned against our God, Yahweh. We failed to really listen to your voice, Yahweh our God.”

because of all the wickedness of the people of Israel and Judah. They have all provoked my anger, their kings, their officials, their priests, their prophets, the people of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Under his rule, Judah will triumph and Jerusalem will live in safety. And the city will be called Yahweh Is Our Righteousness.”

The enemies surround Judah and Jerusalem like men who are guarding a field, for Judah has rebelled against me,’ ” declares Yahweh.

Yet, I am not the one they are hurting, says Yahweh; they are hurting themselves to their own shame.

You may remember your wretched past and feel deep remorse, yet you will be reduced to silence when you realize that I have forgiven you for everything you have done. I, Lord Yahweh, have spoken.”

Then you will remember your evil ways and the wrongs you have done. Your guilt and evil deeds will cause you to be disgusted with yourselves.

As a result, those of you who are parents will eat their children, and children will eat their parents. I will punish you and scatter what remains of you to the winds.

“Those far away will die by the plague, those nearby shall fall by the sword, and those who survive will die of hunger. They will experience the fullness of my fury!

Yahweh, you have waited for the right moment to unleash this calamity upon us. Yahweh, our God, you are just and right in all that you have done, for we defiantly ignored your voice.

Turn your heart to hear my prayer, O my God. Listen to my cry and please look carefully and see our despair and the devastated city, which bears your name. We bring our requests to you and ask for your mercy, not because we deserve it but because of your extravagant, infinite love.

Yes, Yahweh, we are all clothed with shame—our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against you.

So tell me, what benefit ensued from doing those things that you’re now ashamed of? It left you with nothing but a legacy of shame and death.
